Integrated Measurement System R&S IMS

Conventional system solutions in one box

Munich, Jun 03, 2005 - The Integrated Measurement System R&S IMS from Rohde & Schwarz complements the company’s EMS test systems with a compact instrument that handles measurement tasks ranging from development to certification. It already includes all important features such as signal source, power measurement and an optional internal amplifier module. Only a few additional components are necessary to convert it into a complete EMC test system. The operating system of the R&S IMS is fully compliant test software that performs electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) measurements from 9 kHz to 3 GHz in accordance with all common commercial, military and automotive standards. Rohde & Schwarz thus offers a cost-efficient alternative to smaller conventional system solutions.

Test systems for determining electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) usually consist of separate units mounted in racks. Such systems are also effort-intensive since installing and configuring them involves a lot of work. In contrast, the Integrated Measurement System R&S IMS is cost-efficient and saves space, because a test setup is possible by adding only a few extra components such as amplifiers, transducers and antennas. The 19’’ cabinet of the R&S IMS already includes all important components of an EMC test system. The system is driven via a standardized USB interface, which is available in any state-of-the-art PC.

The compact solution from Rohde & Schwarz makes it possible to carry out development-relevant measurements and compliance tests in accordance with all common commercial, military and automotive standards. The integrated signal source covers a frequency range from 9 kHz to 3 GHz and offers AM, FM, φM and pulse modulation modes. The power measurement of three channels (forward and reflected power as well as interference level) allow, in addition to all control methods, also system calibration and continuous checking. By adding an optional spectrum analyzer module, frequency-selective measurements can be performed.

The R&S IMS operating system is fully compliant test software that is installed on the controller. This test software supports fully automatic measurements of conducted and radiated susceptibility as well as electromagnetic interference (EMI) on terminal equipment, modules and integrated circuits. To carry out EMI measurements, the measurement system merely has to be expanded by the EMI Test Receiver R&S ESCI or the Test Receiver R&S ESPI. The operating system can be operated via a uniform intuitive graphical user interface. Owing to its modular structure, the operating system can be easily configured and adapted to future changes in standards or manufacturer-specific test procedures. Moreover, it offers various interfaces for EUT monitoring.
